🔵 Past Simple con "be": Was / Were

El verbo "be" en pasado tiene dos formas: was (singular) y were (plural + you).

The verb "be" in the past has two forms: was and were.

Estructura: Was/Were + sujeto + complemento?

  • Was she at school? → Yes, she was. / No, she wasn't.
  • Were they happy? → Yes, they were. / No, they weren't.

📌 Positiva: I was at the park yesterday.

📌 Negativa: They weren't hungry.

📌 Interrogativa: Was he your teacher?

🔴 Past Simple con otros verbos

El Past Simple se usa para hablar de acciones que empezaron y terminaron en el pasado.

We use Past Simple for actions that started and finished in the past.

✅ Forma positiva

Estructura: Sujeto + verbo en pasado

  • Verbos regulares: verbo + -edI played football.
  • Verbos irregulares: forma especial → She went to school.

❌ Forma negativa

Estructura: Sujeto + didn't + verbo en infinitivo

📌 I didn't play football.

📌 She didn't go to school.

⚠️ Con didn't, el verbo vuelve al infinitivo (sin -ed, sin forma irregular).

❓ Forma interrogativa

Estructura: Did + sujeto + verbo en infinitivo?

📌 Did you play football? → Yes, I did. / No, I didn't.

📌 Did she go to school? → Yes, she did. / No, she didn't.

📌 Positiva: We watched a movie last night.

📌 Negativa: He didn't eat breakfast.

📌 Interrogativa: Did they visit the museum?

🟡 Reglas ortográficas del Past Simple regular (Spelling Rules)

Para formar el pasado de los verbos regulares, se añade -ed, pero hay reglas especiales según la terminación del verbo.

📏 Regla general: añadir -ed

walk → walked

play → played

clean → cleaned

📏 Verbos que terminan en -e: añadir solo -d

live → lived

dance → danced

like → liked

📏 Verbos que terminan en consonante + y: cambiar -y por -ied

study → studied

carry → carried

try → tried

📏 Verbos cortos (CVC): doblar la última consonante + -ed

Si el verbo termina en consonante-vocal-consonante y es corto (una sílaba), se dobla la última consonante.

stop → stopped

plan → planned

clap → clapped

📏 Verbos que terminan en -l: doblar la -l + -ed

travel → travelled

cancel → cancelled

Los verbos irregulares no siguen la regla de -ed. Hay que memorizarlos. Aquí tienes los más importantes:

🟢 Expresiones temporales del Past Simple

Estas expresiones de tiempo nos ayudan a saber que debemos usar el Past Simple:

  • yesterday — ayer
  • last night / last week / last month / last year / last summer
  • two days ago / a week ago
  • on Monday / on Tuesday
  • in 2020
  • when I was young

📌 I visited my grandma last weekend.

📌 She called me two days ago.

📌 We went to the beach last summer.

📌 He played football yesterday.

💡 Truco: Si ves una de estas expresiones en una oración, probablemente necesitas usar Past Simple.

🟠 Past Continuous

El Past Continuous se usa para describir acciones que estaban ocurriendo en un momento del pasado.

We use Past Continuous for actions that were in progress at a specific time in the past.

Formación: sujeto + was/were + verbo con -ing

🎯 ¿Cuándo se usa?

  • Para describir algo que estaba ocurriendo durante un período de tiempo en el pasado.
  • Para describir dos acciones que ocurrían al mismo tiempo en el pasado.
  • Para describir una acción en progreso cuando otra acción la interrumpió (Past Continuous + Past Simple).

💡 Truco: Past Continuous + Past Simple → Una acción larga (continuous) fue interrumpida por una acción corta (simple).
